Étude in E minor

An E minor Allegretto at 120 BPM — a technical study (étude) for piano. The étude as a form was developed by Chopin and Liszt into both pedagogical tool and concert showpiece: a piece built around a specific technical challenge (in this case, continuous 8th-note runs in both ascending and descending motion). The harmony follows the relative major pattern (Em–C–G–D, i-VI-III-VII) — the same progression as many folk songs and rock anthems, but the running 8th-note texture transforms it into something fierce and driven. Bar 5 contains the climax: a full two-octave ascending run from E4 to B5, the highest note in the Mowjera classical collection.
