Bossa Mornings

A G major bossa nova piece at 126 BPM — the Brazilian-jazz fusion that João Gilberto and Stan Getz brought to the world in the early 1960s. Bossa nova keeps the harmonic sophistication of jazz (maj7 and min7 chords throughout, the D7 dominant with tritone shell F#3+C4) but replaces the swing rhythm with a lighter, syncopated feel. The acoustic guitar melody traces wide intervals — B4, D5, C5 in bar 1 — in the fingerpicking style that defines the genre. I-vi-ii-V in G major (Gmaj7–Em7–Am7–D7) stays entirely diatonic, keeping the mood sunny and warm rather than the smoky darkness of minor-key jazz.
